I spoke with a 26 year old female, who is 6 months after giving birth to a baby son, and who is presently breast feeding. She is exhausted , depressed , anxious and has zero libido. Her gynecologist’s approach is to talk with her for 6.2 minutes, give her a script for birth control pills and an anti-depressant. Her hormone levels are almost immeasurable( he never checked them, but I did). Her testosterone level is 4, and it should be about 50-90. Why does she feel so bad?
Testosterone in women has amazing benefits, including increased energy levels, improved calmness and sense of well-being, healthy libido, improved memory and the ability to exercise and to recover after exercise. With her levels so low, she isn’t experiencing any of these things. Birth Control Pills will shut down a women’s healthy testosterone levels and I see so many women in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s with very low levels since they have been using birth control pills and testosterone production has been shut off…..sometimes for good.
She doesn’t need an anti-depressant to circulate through her milk and feed her newborn baby. She just needs her normal hormone levels restored naturally back to normal levels. It’s that simple…. But it is easier for the gynecologist to pass out anti-depressants, anti-anxieties, and sleeping pills like they are candy. That’s so unfair…and so sad.
